Australia has three co-operatives in the latest Global 300 listing published by the International Co-operative Alliance - Murray Goulburn, Dairy Farmers Group and HBF.

This is the third consecutive year that the ICA has published the Global 300 list - to highlight the important role co-operative enterprises play in national and international ecobnomies.

Revenue in 2006 was used as the criteria for selection and ranking. The US dollar was used with local currencies converted into USD on the conversion rate at the respective 2006 financial year.

Murray Goulburn Co-operative Co. Limited was ranked at 157 - 162 in 2007. Established in 1960, the turnover was US$1,505 million in 2006. The co-operative is Australia's largest manufacturer of dairy products with nearly 35% of milk production. http://www.mgc.com.au

Dairy Farmers Group (Australian Co-operative Foods) was ranked at 253 - down from 249 in 2007. Established in 1900, the turnover was US$858 million in 2006. In 2008, however, Australian Co-operative Foods was demutualised.

HBF was ranked 288 - up from just outside the 300 on 313. Established in 1941, the turnover was US$654 million in 2006. HBF is the largest provider of private health insurance in Western Australia. http://www.hbf.com.au
