Finding  Australia's Social Enterprise Sector - Final Report has been released by the FASES project - a joint initiative of Social Traders and the Australian Centre for Philanthropy and Non-Profit Studies, Queensland University of Technology. FASES is Finding Australia's Social Enterprise Sector.  You can download a summary report and for a full report.

The report is based on:

  • Thirty-eight people who participated in the original workshops, interviews and online consultation, that helped frame the definitions and survey instrument.
  • 157 people who made contact via the website to advise about a social enterprise they knew.
  • 539 organisations that participated in the online survey.

The online survey was open for seven weeks between October and November 2009 - 40000 valid email invitations to participate in the survey were issued. With initial screening questions, 365 of the 539 who began the survey completed.

Of these 365, the number incorporated as co-operatives was 5.5% and 18.1 % reported that they were a mutual or member owned business.
