The Secretary of the Co-operative Federation of Victoria Ltd, David Griffiths, explained that it was time for the CCA to consider membership of the ICA.

"For too long, Australian has been isolated from the international co-operative movement. How can we expect co-operatives in Australia to join their State Federations when Australia is not a member of the international federation - the International Co-operative Alliance."

He noted that the Capricorn Society in Western Australia and the New Zealand Co-operative Association were both members of the International Co-operative Alliance.

"The Co-operative Federation of NSW Ltd joined a few years ago but allowed their membership to lapse after one year."
