The Australian Government will consult growers about the future of the Australian Wheaqt Board (AWB).

The Deputy Prime Minister Mark Vaile has announced that a committee of grower representatives will be established.

The committee will have representatives from the Grains Council, state farming organisations, the National Farmers Federation and the Grain Growers Association.

He said the committee would be asked to develop a number of options. The options developed by the committee would be subsequently mailed out to Australia's 22,000 grain growers seeking their feedback.

It is not clear whether the Australian Government or the committee would consider a co-operative AWB as an option.
