Use of the Official IYC 2012 Slogan

The Chairman and Secretary of Co-operatives Australia, David Griffiths, has urged co-operatives in their planning for the launch of the International Year of Co-operatives on 1 January 2012 that they incorporate the official IYC slogan in their marketing, newsletters, emails and in anything that the co-operative uses to communicate - Co-operative enterprises build a better world. ICA's New Director-General

The International Co-operative Alliance has named Charles Gould as its new Director-General - replacing Iain Macdonald who has served as Director-General for the past eight years. The ICA has 240 member organisations from 91 countries - representing nearly one billion individuals and providing more than 100 million jobs. The International Co-operative Alliance's ICA Digest 69, June 2010, is now available as a pdf to download or as an on-line e-book. The issue covers two big events for the ICA - the International Year of Co-operatives in 2012 and the International Day of Co-operatives on 3 July 2010 which focuses on women. The issue also carries articles on the work that the ICA undertakes to promote and ensure co-operative growth. There is qalso information on the ICA and movement's response to the Haiti disaster and leadership changes at the ICA and its membership.

ICA and United Nations International Year of Co-operatives 2012

The International Co-operative Alliance has today established a section on its web site for the United Nations International Year of Co-operatives 2012 - including Who is planning the International Year? What kind of activities are appropriate for celebrating IYC?Is there a logo or slogan for the International Year of Co-operatives? and Are there funds available to support events organised for IYC? There is a ICA draft proposal for activities for IYC which can be downloaded.

ICA Goes e-book

There is an exciting new development to the International Co-operative Alliance's (ICA) web site. The ICA Digest published by the ICA is now available as an e-book as well as a pdf. The latest issue of the Digest No 68 is now available as an e-book in English and Spanish editions. Back issues of the ICA Digest are available only in pdf. In providing an e-book option, the ICA is increasing visitor accessibility and options.

Co-operation in Haiti

International Year of Co-operatives

The United Nations General Assembly has proclaimed 2012 as the International Year for Co-operatives. Co-operatives Australia had urged the Australian Government to support this initiative at the United Nations. For more information go to the web site of the International Co-operative Alliance.
