The Co-operative Council of Australia has written to Government Ministers throughout Australia regarding lack of progress with State co-operative legislation despite the agreements of a Ministerial Council on Consumer Affairs.

The Co-operative Council of Australia  (CCA) includes the Co-operative Federations of New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Victoria and Western Australia.

Work on co-operative legislation has been undertaken by a working party established by the Ministerial Council on Consumer Affairs - the National Co-operative Working Party (NCWP). The CCA last met with the NCWP on 29 May 2003.

The Ministerial Council on Consumer Affairs  has endorsed two significant amendments to all State co-operative legislation - provision for CCU's and Mutual Recognition

There is a significant exception to this lack of legislative progress - the Western Australian government has tabled a Co-operative Bill 2006 in the State Parliament. The Bill includes provision for CCU's and Mutual Recognition
