Another very successful conference was held at the Adelaide Pavilion on Friday the 17th October 2008, despite the numbers attending being down on previous years, it was pleasing to see that 60% of our members attended.
Whilst our conferences over the past few years have included a morning session followed by a visit of the host members operations in the afternoon, this year as we were in Adelaide it was our first full day conference which commenced at 10 am, the subjects covered at the conference this year were, “Workplace Relations – Back to the future”, The Value & Importance of Co-operative Education and Water Resources in South Australia. Our speakers were Rick Cairney the Manager Consulting Services for Business SA who spoke on the workplace relations subject, Graeme Charles who spoke on co-operative education and being the accredited Australian representative for the UK Co-operative College was well qualified to speak on this matter and our last speaker was Jim Taliangis the Manager Product & Marketing Services for SA Water.
All speakers were well qualified in their area of expertise and an informative and interesting day was had my all who attended, the conference concluded with an overview of Master Butchers Co-operative Ltd by their General Manager Warren McLean and their plans for the next 100 plus years and the expansion of their facilities to cater for growth over the next two years. They agreed to host the conference in 2010 at their new premises.
At the Annual General meeting Jeff Hoffman from VGC Co-operative Ltd was appointed to the Management Committee following his nomination, and at the committee meeting after the AGM, Trevor Schmidt was reappointed President for the coming year and Chris Frith Vice President
The day’s activities concluded at 4 pm with thanks to our two sponsors O’Loughlins Lawyers and Master Butchers Co-operative Ltd (MBL Est. 1905) for their support
