Another housing co-operative has achieved registration in Victoria - the West Turk Housing and Elderly Services Co-operative.

The West Turk Housing and Elderly Services Co-operative was established in December 1986 by local Turkish residents of St. Albans to provide affordable housing for low income families from a Turkish background.

The co-operative manages 27 three-bedroom houses and four two bedroom units in the St Albans area.

The co-operative was registered on 17 April 2009.

The West Turk Housing and Elderly Services Co-operative  is the sixth co-operative to be registered as a housing provider:

  • Footscray Rental Housing Co-operative Ltd
  • Northcote Rental Housing Co-operative Ltd
  • Northern geelong Rental Housing Co-operative Ltd
  • SouthEast Housing Co-operative Ltd
  • Sunshine/st Albans Rental Housing Co-operative Ltd

In addition, Common Equity Housing Ltd is registered as a housing association. While not a co-operative, CEHL has approximately 1700 properties throughout Victoria primarily managed by co-operatives of between 10 and 25 households.
