The Chairman and Secretary of Co-operatives Australia, David Griffiths, has urged co-operatives in their planning for the launch of the International Year of Co-operatives on 1 January 2012 that they incorporate the official IYC slogan in their marketing, newsletters, emails and in anything that the co-operative uses to communicate - Co-operative enterprises build a better world. Australia's Top 100 Co-operatives, Credit Unions and Mutuals

Co-operatives Australia has published a list of top 100 co-operatives, credit unions and mutuals by annual turnover. Co-operatives Australia is the national body for State Co-operative Federations in Australia. It is an unincorporated body with membership by the Co-operative Federations of New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Victoria and Western Australia. Co-operatives Australia and the Prime Minister

Co-operatives Australia has written to the Australian Prime Minister, the Hon. Kevin Rudd MP, supporting the call by the Board of the international Co-operative alliance (ICA) to each of the G20 governments, that the G20 at its meeting in April 2009 in London examine every option in seeking to overcome the current financial crisis, and asking that they give serious consideration to the advantages of the co-operative model of business.

Cooperatives Australia is the new name for the Co-operative Council of Australia adopted at a meeting on 29 November 2008 at the Garden Terrace, Stamford Plaza, Sydney airport, Mascot, New South Wales.

Co-operative Council of Australia Changes

At the last meeting of the Co-operative Council of Australia on 20 May 2008 it waws agreed that for the next two years the Co-operative Federation of Victoria Ltd will assume chairing and secretarial roles. Tony O'Shea will become Chairman and David Griffiths will become Secretary of the CCA.

There will be a Co-operative Council of Australia teleconference on 20 May 2008. Issues to be discussed at the teleconference include co-operative legislation, co-operative education, wheat bill, ICA membership, electronic billboard of sale/buy, stock exchange and CCU's and Secretariat.

Australian Co-operators to Meet

The next meeting of the Co-operative Council of Australia will be on 30 October 2007 through a teleconference link up. Issues under discussion will include membership of the International Co-operative Alliance, co-operative education, demutualisation and an Australian list of top co-operatives and mutuals.
